Since it's Halloween, let's make some witches' broomstick for snack time! If you have older kids this is a perfect activity for them to help you in the kitchen. For the broomstick you can use vegetable sticks, thin breadsticks or pretzel sticks. I don't recommend making them overnight with the pretzels or bread, as they will get a little soft over time. This snack is perfect for any time of day and any occasion.
Ingredients:
Mozzarella string cheese
Carrots
Celery
Chives or celery for the
Pretzel sticks
Bread
Directions:
Cut the cheese string in thirds
With a knife or scissors cut the cheese lengthwise, only halfway through. This leaves one half whole and the other half with the “broom strips”.
Cut thin sticks of bread or veggies, if using bread cut and then toast.
If you are going to use pretzel sticks, leave them as they come.
With a knife or peeler pull off strips of celery to use as string. Green onions or chives strips work as well, but they break more easily.
Now that we have all our ingredients ready, let's assemble the brooms.
With a toothpick or the tip of a thin knife, pierce a small hole on the side of the cheese that is not cut into strips.
Insert the vegetable, pretzel or bread stick into the hole.
Tie the string to the top of the cheese as shown in the photo.
The snack is ready!
